City Centre Campus Overview
Cardiff and Vale College’s City Centre Campus is located in the heart of Cardiff on Dumballs Road, just a short walk from the city centre and Cardiff Central railway station.
The campus provides a modern and welcoming environment where students can learn, study and socialise between classes. At the centre of the campus is the College’s landmark main building, which opened in 2015 and includes hundreds of teaching spaces and specialist facilities designed to support a wide range of academic and vocational courses.
The central location means students are close to Cardiff’s main shopping areas, parks, restaurants and cultural attractions, making it easy to enjoy life in the city alongside your studies.

Study Spaces
There are several quiet and comfortable study areas across the campus where students can work independently or collaborate with classmates.
These spaces provide an environment where students can focus on coursework, complete assignments and prepare for assessments.
Success and Study Centre
The Success and Study Centre is a dedicated space that supports students with their academic studies.
Students can access: computers and digital learning resources, quiet study areas, group work spaces, academic guidance and study skills support. The centre is designed to help students stay organised and succeed in their courses.
Student Life Hub
The Student Life Hub is a central support area where students can access advice and wellbeing services.
Staff in the hub can provide guidance on student services, wellbeing support and other areas where students may need assistance during their time at the College.
Food and Cafés
There are several places on campus where students can buy food and drinks or relax between lessons.
Students can visit Simply Fresh, an on-campus shop where you can buy snacks, drinks and quick meals.
The campus also has Bae Coffi, the college coffee shop, which serves hot drinks, snacks and light meals throughout the day. It is a popular place for students to meet friends or take a break between classes.
The campus also features The Classroom, a training restaurant located on the fifth floor of the main building. It is part of the College’s hospitality training facilities and offers views across the city.
Wi-Fi and Online Systems
Students at Cardiff and Vale College have access to free Wi-Fi across the campus.
Once you have completed enrolment, you will receive login details that allow you to access the College’s digital systems. These systems help you stay organised and connected during your studies.
Students use these systems to:
• Access their timetable
• Communicate with teachers and college staff
• Receive announcements and updates
• Join online classes or meetings
• Submit coursework and assignments
Teachers will help students set up and use these systems during the first week of college.
Faith and Quiet Spaces
The City Centre Campus provides quiet spaces where students can relax, reflect or pray during the day.
These spaces are open to students of all faiths and backgrounds and provide a calm environment away from busy areas of the campus.
Fire Safety
Fire safety is taken very seriously at Cardiff and Vale College and in all student accommodation.
Students must follow all fire safety instructions provided in College buildings and accommodation. Fire exits, alarms and evacuation procedures are clearly displayed throughout buildings.
If a fire alarm sounds, students must:
• Leave the building immediately using the nearest safe exit
• Follow the evacuation routes and staff instructions
• Go to the designated assembly point outside the building
• Do not re-enter the building until instructed by staff or emergency services
Students should never ignore a fire alarm and must not tamper with fire safety equipment.
Student ID Cards
After completing enrolment, you will receive your Cardiff and Vale College student ID card.
Students should carry their ID card whenever they are on campus. It may be required to:
• Access certain buildings or areas of the campus
• Use college facilities and services
• Travel on the CAVC Rider shuttle bus
• Confirm student status for discounts
If you lose your ID card, please report it to Student Services as soon as possible so that a replacement can be arranged.

The City Centre Campus is easy to reach using public transport.
Nearest train station: Cardiff Central (a short walk from campus)
Bus routes: Cardiff Bus services 1 and 2 stop near the campus on Dumballs Road
Many students who live in the city centre also choose to walk or cycle to college.
CAVC Rider Shuttle
The CAVC Rider is a free shuttle bus service available for students and staff. It runs between different Cardiff and Vale College campuses.
Students must show their CAVC student ID card to use the shuttle service.
